Running Down the Best of the Rest
Culture: New York Comes Back: Mayor Ed Koch and the City
This exhibit sees two decades of New York through the eyes of America's most lovable troll-mayor, Edward I. Koch. You'll spot EIK himself in many shots, from the graffitied streets of the bankrupt 70s, to the booming 80s -- when the bleak scourge of heroin was replaced by the glamorous scourge of cocaine.
Gorging: Dona
Opening Monday, this new spot from Donatella Arpaia (Ama, davidburke & donatella) will feature dishes inspired by Southern Europe (SoEu), e.g. Scallop Ceviche Lasagna and Sheep's Milk Gnocchi. The main influences are Greece and Italy -- where the culinary tradition's so strong it's survived fascism, post-fascism, and Fabio-ism.
Buying: Wear The Game
WTG was born when two former college baseball players took the next natural career step: fashion. Their wrist cuffs are cut from official college and pro game balls (football, basketball, baseball). Grab one now, and you'll be ready for baseball's Opening Day -- putting you a step ahead of, say, Carl Pavano.

Sports: Big Apple Grapple XXIX
The USS Intrepid's hosting an event even more exciting than warfare: legions of arm wrestlers arriving from faraway lands like The Republic of Georgia and Staten Island, gripping it out for the King and Queen of Arms titles. The winner gets $500, but the memories'll last the rest of his/her steroid-truncated lifetime.
The Rest: Avo's 80th Birthday Bash
Next Wednesday, cigar legend Avo Uvezian's inviting friends, associates, sycophants, and you to celebrate his many-splendored triumphs: from penning the music for "Strangers in The Night", to building a global stogie powerhouse. Attend, and you'll get cocktails, a four course meal, more cocktails, Avo on the piano, a 6-pack of cigars, and a chance to win a June trip to the Dominican Republic -- where Avo's thong will expose his other prodigious gifts.
