The Rest: Do Hwa Oscar Pool
55 Carmine St, at Bedford; 212.414.1224
Fax entries to 212.741.1387 before 7:58pm Sun Mar 5
Betting can liven up the dullest activities. If you count Oscar watching among those, this Korean restaurant/film geek hangout's got you covered. Their pool buy-in's $10 per ballot, and you can enter as many times as you want.
If money's all you care about, you don't even need to attend the party -- just fill out
the ballot linked to here and fax it over, complete with your phone number and credit card info. You'll then have the evening free to host a belated Best Picture Ever bash for
Tango and Cash.
The Rest: Dekk Oscar Party
Sun Mar 5, Pre-Show starts at 7pm
134 Reade St, between Hudson and Greenwich; 212.941.9401
If you glory in glimpses of red carpet side-boob, check out Dekk's party -- they've got two huge screens in the dining room, and an even huger one in their screening room. They'll also be serving theme cocktails, like the Golden Momentini -- an apt title for the bathroom break you'll take during "Best Documentary Short".
Gorging: A Voce
41 Madison, at 26th; 212.545.8555
Former Cafe Boulud chef Andrew Carmellini's Italian restaurant is tentatively grand-opening on the 8th, but they're already plating meals for freeloading friends and family members -- so if you want an early sampling of their meaty Lamb Shank Tortellini or swigs off their 600-entry wine list, you should befriend an employee, or give birth to one.
Drinking: Hoboken St Patrick's Day
Sat Mar 4, 9am 'til last call
Year after year, Hoboken falls victim to premature commemoration and lets fly their St. Patrick's Day festivities two weeks early. The action's at the many early pouring Irish pubs: Mulligan's (9am), McSwiggan's (9am), Willie McBride's (9:30am), or, if you're soft, McMahon's (10am). The 1pm parade's being grand marshaled by high school baseball coach Charles "Buddy" Matthews. Poor Hoboken.
