Running Down the Best of the Rest
Culture: Ruddy Adames Opening
Creepy, sci-fi influenced artist Ruddy Adames merges "the mechanics of science with the...softness of human bodies", a style that's earned him patrons like tender man-machine Wesley Snipes. Tuesday's opening features an open vodka bar until 7:30pm, followed by another 2.5 hours of $4 cocktails -- after which you'll be so embarrassingly demolished, Adames will lose faith in mortal man and just start drawing robots.
Gorging: Little Owl
Officially opening early next week, this highly anticipated "American-Mediterranean" spot's already throwing private parties -- we'd advise crashing, but with only 28 seats, blending into the crowd'll be difficult. Dishes include Grilled Scallops w/ Spinach and Lobster Risotto, and The Little Owl Pork Chop w/ Parmesan Butter Beans and Wild Dandelion. They'll also be staying open 'til 1am -- extra time to decide just how eager you are to eat flowers.
The Rest: Fifth Avenue Fair
The ubiquitous Manhattan street fair involves dubious food, old Chinese men providing massages, and pillow cases. The FAF's a step above: live rock bands, chow from restaurants like Blue Ribbon Sushi, and bier from Bierkraft -- which you can drink openly on the street, in celebration of the lawless frontier that is Park Slope.
Drinking: Union Square Wines & Spirits Relocation Sale
Impeccably stocked but smallish USQ is relocating to a larger space in June, and they're apparently too lazy to schlep their inventory with them. Instead, they're offering 30% off any 12 or more bottles purchased at their current, lame-duck location. The sale goes through May 31st...and while you were waiting for a joke, we just walked off with six cases.
