LAPD Crime Maps

Whether you're contemplating moving to a new neighborhood, or caving to your Cops-related fascination with sirens, it's important to know what evil deeds are going on around you. To find out what's up without risking becoming a statistic yourself, check out LAPD Crime Maps.

LAPDCM(.org) is a city-run interactive map plotting the time and location of all reported crimes, designed to make you feel safe/move away, depending on your zip code. Just enter your address, then set the radius and time span of your search -- up to 7 days, in case you foggily remember being drunk and disorderly last weekend, but not whether you got charged with it. The results are returned on a zoom/draggable map dotted with circles color-coded to crime type, from teal for theft to a cheery yellow for murder.

In case you're unfamiliar with the transgression that got your 'hood caution-taped up, the site's also got links to crime definitions, and even offers "crime tips" -- which if your TV watching is any reference should include "don't hide your crack in the glove compartment".
