Sandal Man

511 Superior Ave, Newport Beach; 949.642.8455

In our sunny clime flip-flops can be worn year-round and thus, must perform to a higher standard. Who understands your relentless piggy-exposing needs? The Sandal Man does.

The SandalMan's a Newport Beach institution founded in an era when shoelessness equaled communism -- two Hawaiian brothers who design and assemble flip-flops you can rock just as easily during sandy leisure as work-y lunchtime. Constructed using high quality materials like suede and leather, their sandals are all equipped with a vibram wedge sole, providing the cushioning you need for nonstop walking/standing around contemplating walking. Designs include a classic thong-style leather flop, a wide-strapper, two nylon options -- and a dreaded, braided-leather Mandal, for the man whose "breeziness" refers to the wind whipping through his toe hair as he runs away from bullies.

Another thing the Sandal Man knows is that even his SoCal-optimized flops can still leave odd-footed guys in the cold: if you've got peculiar feet, they'll craft you a custom pair, though webbed toes should be enough motivation to fly north for the summer.
