Nunchux Wine Speakeasy

October 14 at 2000 N Figueroa, Downtown

Oktoberfest's beer/meat-centrism should make it a holiday that celebrates your lifestyle -- but its oompah component suggests that it's really intended for fat men in green overall shorts. For a you-minded Oktoberfest, hit this Sunday's Nunchux.

Thrillist = Nunchux Started by a Silverlake wine employee, Nunchux is a monthly, speakeasy-style party celebrating both hard-to-find vino and the hip-hopization of Ninja Turtle weaponry. This month's Oktoberfest-themed gathering'll feature Teutonic grub (homemade sauerkraut, gourmet sausages), German beers, and 4-5 hard-to-find wines from Lithuania and Austria, as apparently, Germany produces no "good reds" (at least not since '89). In a departure from tuba-driven fun, entertainment's provided by moody indie-rockers I Make This Sound, whose childlike pride can also be seen in their side art project, I Drew This Unicorn.

Upcoming theme possibilities include a Thanksgiving feast and a caviar-and-champagne New Years party -- where they'll hopefully bring in a band suitable for people whose "auld acquaintance" won't be forgot, but whose slobbery, 11:58 attempts at a good luck kiss certainly will.
