Traveling far afield w/o the proper dining intel can result in eating the subpar, from the desultory nibbling of a $20 Au Bon Pain croissant, to Halal Roulette with un-vouched-for street meat. See your options unfurled, with MenuMap.

Thrillist - MenuMapMassively expanded after a lengthy hiatus, MuM's a free MenuPages/GMap mashup that plots Brooklyn and Manhattan restaurants by hood, from Cobble Hill to Kips Bay (that latter known to people who aren't lying to themselves as "Murray Hill"). Filter your options by cuisine (Peruvian, Ethiopian...Burgers), price, rating, OpenTable participation, or whether the eatery has a web site -- because nothing says "legitimate establishment" like geocities.com/~SteviesAbsolutAfghan/yumfalafel.html. Click the resultant icon and name/contact info'll pop up, plus a link to the menu, sparing you the disappointment of not finding the pork tenderloin at BLT Jew.

Though most robust in New York, MuM also covers Boston, SF, Chicago, DC, Philly, and LA, preventing you from crossing the entire country only to be forced to eat that city's street meat du jour: hunger-weakened writers on strike.
