Ride

1638 Abbot Kinney, Venice; 310.714.0109

Activities associated with going green range from the dull (picking up litter) to the duller (talking about how there's so much more litter to be picked up). Juice up your environmentalism, with Ride.

Thrillist - RideA small, woody boutique on Abbot Kinney, Ride claims to be the first-ever surf & skate shop stocking only environmentally-friendly equipment (finally you can offset the carbon footprint of ollie-ing). The headliner's Ride's own brand, GRide: surfboard sizes vary from 5” to 10”, and though the exterior's still standard glass, the interior replaces Styrofoam with vegetable-based biofoam, so when your board breaks in half, all you'll destroy is your organs. As for skating, the line's local-artist-decorated boards are made from bamboo, koa, and sustainable maple, while the store also stocks similarly eco-tastic street, pool, and longboard decks from Arbor and Comet, who replaces glue with a soy polymer -- so instead of huffing glue during production, their employees will have to put it in their coffee.

Ride also stocks environmentally friendly board shorts, t-shirts, and waxes -- because what's more exciting than going from "I use Sex Wax!" to "My wax protects seagulls".

The kinda-empty website's at RideGRide.com
