THRILLIST New York
The List
Hump This
Drink: Clover Club Opens tonight at 210 Smith St, between Baltic and Butler; 718.855.7939 From the gal behind Flatiron Lounge, this tearoom-style spot's decked out w/ pressed tin ceilings, velvet-upholstered settees, and a 19th-century mahogany bar. Food's American-style small plates (molasses-glazed drummettes, lamb burger w/goat cheese, etc), while the 32-strong cocktail list is org'd into nine categories, from sours & daisies (tequila daisy, NY sour), to bucks & mules (grandma's buck, el diablo), to highballs & cobblers -- the latter an old-timey wine/liquor/citrus combo that first popularized the drinking straw ("Who taught you how to drink through a straw?" "I learned it from you, dad!"). Check the cocktail menu Culture: Le Poisson Rouge 158 Bleecker St, between Thompson and Sullivan; 212.796.0741 This 800-seat "multimedia art cabaret" lights up two modular stages, bottle services a VIP lounge, and is just now hawking tickets for an eclectic array of artists, from Balkan folk-rockers Hawk and a Hacksaw, to wildly experimental singer-songwriter Ricky Lee Jones, to "transgender performance legend" x-Bindlestiff -- who's also been honored with cameo shout-outs in the popular PFLAG comic book, Ex-Men? LPR starts food service in September. Check the upcoming shows at LePoissonRouge.com
Gear: Digger Tees This NY-based, aggressively sophomoric shop hawks tees with punnily-modified logos from movies, TV shows, and popular consumables, e.g., the Star Wars-inspired "Bar Bar Drinks", "A-Hole" in the "A-Team" font, and the insecticide-spray-sourced "Laid: Kills Virginity Dead" -- which just narrowly beat out the runner-up slogan "Laid: Probably Not with this Shirt". Drink: Wrath of Cannes 6-10pm Thurs at Cha Cha's Club Atlantis: 1229 Riegelmen Boardwalk, Brooklyn; 718.946.1305 Organized by disgruntled creatives whose work wasn't accepted at the Cannes Lions advertising fest, this bash'll be screening rejected/never-submitted adverts from partygoers, with gratis drinks 'til 8pm regardless of whether you participate. An IRO fixed-gear or single-speed bike goes to the winning entrant, who'll have achieved dizzying heights of glory typically known only by NIT champions. More info at WrathOfCannes.com
Gear: 60% off Summer Threads Thru Friday at 275 W 39th St, between 7th and 8th; 212.768.2868 Up to 60% off Generra's lightweight spring and summer gear, including men's cotton utility blazers, slub jersey polos, and lawn shirts -- meant to be worn with two buttons open, on a lawn that is not actually a fire escape.
