Thrillist AtlantaDramatically upgrading your image can either pay off big, or just confuse people -- newly slim Al Roker looks mad sexy, but an unrecognizable Star Jones' gastric bypass just took the weight out of her career. For a seriously dramatic, successful hotel upgrade, hit The Artmore, grand opening Tuesday.
Opened in 1924 as luxury apartments, the Artmore was most recently a Best Western Granada Suites, but now's relaunching as a completely renovated boutique, with flat screen & iPod-docked rooms, a comfortably modern metal, wood, and stone lobby, donated Woodruff Arts Center prints, and, most crucially, the future-swanky Studio Bar and Lounge. With zebra-pillowed couches sectioned off by a wall partition rocking silver wave graphics, Studio's dominated by a long bar embedded with thousands of metal circles evocative of river stones, over which hang light fixtures that resemble plates with the center cut out -- a hilarious way to lose weight. Beyond wine & beer, the bar's serving daiquiris, caipirinhas, and specialty cocktails like the Kryptonite (vodka, Malibu, Midori, & pineapple), Yazi Amore (amaretto, ginger vodka, & soda), THE Hollywood (pineapple-infused vodka, Chambord, pine juice, & sugar), and the Crown, Disaronno, pineapple and cran-juiced Crown of Roses -- Jesus, that sounds delicious!
Drinks can also be taken into the Artmore's courtyard, which features oversized furniture, stamped concrete walkways, and a water sculpture sporting a fire pit in its center -- so if Al shows up looking naughty, you'll have something to blame your uncontrollable sweating on.
