Bill Hallman

Local designer returns to clothes-making after an almost decade-long hiatus

Sometimes it takes a long hiatus to appreciate and return to your true love, like Tommy Lee and Pamela Anderson, who really just needed to let things settle down like Hepatitis. Back to designing his own menswear following a nine-year break, Bill Hallman.

A 20-year fashion vet and proprietor of three popular ATL boutiques loaded with lines from other top labels, Hallman's just released his first new collection of casual men's gear since 2000, when the demands of running his retail business got in the way; he's now regained the inspiration that allows him to "be mentally there", but not Mentalistly there, cause CBS has man-eating lawyers. He's starting with the unique idea of denim trousers -- not jeans -- with 2% Lycra for slight stretchability, and differently tailored sizes like "Skinny" (very slim w/ tapered leg), "Straight" (lower waist & rise, un-tapered straight leg), and "Athletic" for wider legs; colors include black, dark blue, metallic gray, "hunter" green, khaki, and brown, as well as non-denim using cotton, 100% silk, or bamboo, which provides a soft texture that ladies will appreciate much more than your offer to show them your wooden flute. Top yourself off with two-buttoned, small-lapel blazers (denim/cotton-blend; in same color choices as pants, plus metallic silver or slate brown), or cotton shirts made in three styles: "Architectural", w/ asymmetrical front & back seams, "Utilitarian", w/ buttoned chest pockets, and the heavier "My Mod Western", with shoulder stitching that's "cowboy-inspired" -- so it under performs and has the world's largest television?

'Round Christmas, Hallman's planning to release a new lineup of velvet suits, and he'll even custom-make any of his trousers for you in slimmer or more relaxed fit, which you'll need once you're finally reunited with your true love, Sara Lee.
