EveryBlock
Atlanta's a big place, so what do you care if someone's stealing Barbies all the way across town? Get hood-specific haps, from EveryBlock.
Just launched in ATL, EB tidily and chronologically presents nabe data gathered from websites, police reports, government resources, and newspapers, so now when those kids selling AJC subscriptions for charity show up on your doorstep, you can talk about something besides business. Just input your zip, hood, or address, and EB'll return constantly updated daily reports on freshly registered businesses and liquor licenses, local coupons/sales, real estate listings, police reports, and nightclub/restaurant health code violations, so you'll know where to pretend you just ate a finger. You can also track word-of-mouth info in your zone via aggregated social media outlets, including Yelp business reviews (Fox Theater: five stars; Babs restaurant: 1), geo-tagged Craigslist updates of for-sale goods and lost-and-found stuff, film screenings posted by area bloggers, and Flickr albums from other block-loving locals, where you can continue being upset about how many oil-soaked, underwear'd men pranced around without you two weeks ago in Brownwood. And yes, that really happened.
You can also subscribe to RSS feeds for any hoods you like, and EB'll drop the local goods directly into your feed reader or inbox every day; they also just dropped a free iPhone app that updates once a day, so even on the go, you Ken keep on top of everything.
