Toby Keith went from working an oil derrick, to touring with Nugent, to hopefully putting Nugent in a stranglehold after one too many practical jokes involving arrows. Now he's bringing his I Love This Bar & Grill to Dallas, opening tomorrow where the AMC Grand once stood. There's a lot going on, so here's an overview:
A Sprawling Layout: The massive 33000sqft, 1900+ capacity bar/concert space/resto sports a 96ft, 125-seat guitar-shaped main bar pouring over three dozen beers, plus semi-private sponsored "huts", a soundproof VIP room, and a spacious dance floor flanked by twin bars, or where Jenna and Barb should've gone instead of Chuy's.
Drinks Named After Songs: Play voodoo games with a spiced rum/sour apple schnapps Creole Woman, get made in the shade with Trailerhood Tea (vodka, teq, rum, gin, splash of Shiner), or buy a tequila/watermelon schnapps "Stays in Mexico" for... every men's suit salesman from South Dakota in the house?
Burgers Named After Songs: All of 'em come with "Freedom Fries", and the basic cheese version is called the American Soldier, though if you go for the veggie-patty option you might be a Canadian Soldier. Other notable beefwiches: the "Should've Been A Cowboy" (bac, cheddar, onion rings, Toby's BBQ) and the "She's a Hottie" (pepperjack, Hatch chiles, crispy onion straws).
Not-burgers Not Named After Songs: Give your heart a workout with a fried bologna sandwich (seared w/ onions & cheese, slathered w/ Miracle Whip, on grilled garlic toast), red, white & blue-chipped Smokehouse Nachos, or salmon that's been marinated in bourbon for 24hrs -- which shouldn't get you too tipsy, but's still more booze than the Nuge claims to've had his entire life. Unless he was joking about that...
