Sometimes you have to go deep in order to get the big score, and sometimes you can't because you already made plans to play football with the guys. Yep -- you're doing the sex! For a new beer haven buried deep within a brewery, check Drake's Barrel House, opening today.
The first major ale-swilling addition to a microbrewery originally built inside an old San Leandro Caterpillar Tractor plant back in '89, DBH is the label's new on-site brewery taproom featuring church pew seating, DBH-only beer-sclusives, and some damn good scenery -- it's erected right in their cask-rich barrel-aging room, which is presumably the place to find young guns... too. Serving upwards of 20 Drake's beers on tap, they'll stock the tastery with hard-to-find seasonals, special releases, a handful of creamy-headed nitro versions, and pours straight from the barrels in the room goes the dynamite. Better still, they'll top off refillable to-go branded growlers, sell beer by the case, keg, 22oz "bomber" and six-pack, which is probably not the best thing to get if you want to keep yours.
And while they won't be serving food, the plan's to have Bay Area food trucks swing by Thurs-Sat, which is another big score you can't get at home, unless you go deep, pocket-wise.
