Going into business with a friend can be a huge gamble: not only are you testing the strength of your bond by putting your savings on the line with a new product, but he also hooked up with your sister, and could conceivably do it again. Rolling the dice to make you tees, J. Newbury.
From two buddies (one in corporate finance, the other in graphic design) that met while working together at a Newbury St restaurant, JN’s collection of tees are billed as “a modern take on classic clothing” and feature original hand drawn designs printed on super soft, reclaimed organic cotton gym shirts from the 1960s (just be thankful they're not reclaiming the shorts). Designs include a tattered black and white Stars ‘n Stripes w/ one solo red stripe and a diverse selection of cocktail glasses as stars; a charcoal tee with frayed sleeves/collar and a drawing of a modified Vincent Black Shadow motorcycle on the front; and a classic gym gray crewneck rocking an electric axe leaning against an amp w/ a shoulder strap that reads “Love That Dirty Water”, which is also the Mexican Tourism Board's new advertising slogan. There’s also a slightly tweaked Jack of Hearts holding a martini glass in lieu of a sword on the front and a tumbling deck of aces down the back; the Boxing Club, two old school bare knuckle fighters squared off but wearing bowler hats and high collared shirts w/ bow ties; and the limited edition King J, portraying a sketched fedora-and-white-glove-wearing MJ moonwalking while tossing aside a full martini, proving he could stop before he got enough.
While it’s all tees at the moment, JN eventually plans to expand the brand, putting their drawings on classic jackets from Starter and MEMBERS ONLY, which are more exclusive than getting into the club of hooking up with your sister, because everybody's in that one.
