Occasionally something great can result from two men falling for the same woman -- Clapton wrote "Layla" about George Harrison's wife, and My Two Dads produced the hot sister from Step by Step. Now add one more to the list: Salon 13.

From a pair of high school buddies who met when one started dating the other's ex, S13's the brainchild of an NYU grad/nightlife vet and his stylist pal (worked at big-name salons before becoming the on-set scissor jockey for Dawson's Creek), fulfilling their shared vision of a hair affair that reflects "their style and roots", even though they're basically there for when the latter starts showing. Thanks in part to the founders' laid-back personalities, the space exudes a welcoming downtown/rock vibe, with dark wood floors, textured purple walls, a black spray painted longhorn skull, and original photographs/prints from local artists, all surrounding four chairs situated in front of hand-crafted full length mirrors in which you can watch the director's cut, which hopefully edits out every scene with Kiefer Sutherland. They do regular trims, but the signature treatment's the Mojovator: an industry heavyweight cuts your mop while you pick the jams (by requesting a theme or plugging in your own player), pound gratis bevs (beer, whiskey, wine, whatever), and nosh on some delivery grub (careful it doesn't come with all the trimmings).

Should your problems extend beyond haircuts, in the past they've helped design tats, and even brought in artists to do 'em on the spot though remember, if another man takes that woman, removing that stamp's gonna take a lot of steps.
