Bread + Butter Fritas and craft brews in the Gables

From the local behind The Local (Alberto Cabrera), who grew up eating tons of this joint's namesake on his health-obsessed grandma's farm in Cuba, Bread + Butter's an industrial-ish eatery in the Gables putting nifty spins on Cuban classics.

The entire joint's outfitted with rustic wood tables and steel chairs, plus this 22-seat counter with a full view of their butters, whipped fat, and house jams that're even better than that time Hugh Laurie played Omar Epps on an 8ft rim.

If Clifford was a small red dog, everyone would hang their bags from his butt.

They've also got a "crackling of the day", smoked oxtail ragu topped with a Lake Meadow Farm egg & toasted garlic, and fritas including this one stacked with cheddar, Napa cabbage kimchi, cilantro, and onion.

The warm Cuban toast gets loaded up with slow-cooked tomatoes, sea salt, garlic, and Spanish olive oil, which will pair nicely with an Ommegang Hennepin, Southern Tier 2X Milk Stout, and a few from Cigar City -- which may not quite be a local, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't enjoy its own bread + butter called Maduro Brown.
