A&W is putting Sour Patch Kids in shakes now

Perhaps fearing that Five Guys' new test milkshakes might be a threat to its root-beer float dominance, A&W has hit back with two new concoctions that pound the nostalgia button pretty hard. The chain has debuted Sour Patch Kids and Nutter Butter versions of their Polar Swirls, basically making a Flurry out of your childhood memories. The Nutter Butter option relies on a smooth peanut butter swirl and cookie crunch, while the Sour Patch Kids variety is just as sour-sweet as you'd expect, and apparently "a little mysterious". (Don't ask about its time in Belarus in the '80s.) Like all good things, they're only limited run, but if that run increases the possibility of Warheads shakes in the future, things are looking up.

Kristin Hunt is a food/drink staff writer for Thrillist, and will probably love these Polar Swirls just as much as an A&W float. Which is a lot. Follow her at @kristin_hunt.
