Ronald McDonald gets makeover, is now a hipster

Realizing his romper and striped-shirt wardrobe was becoming too mainstream and lacking irony, McDonald's has apparently looked to places like Brooklyn and Portland for a little inspiration in giving Ronald McDonald a makeover. Behold: Hipster Ronald.

As part of a larger campaign to put Ronald front and center again (the corporate world's version of going vintage), the Golden Arches got him a new wardrobe that includes yellow cargo pants, a vest, a red-and-white-striped rugby shirt, and a "whimsical red blazer" for special occasions -- all designed by the Tony Award-winning costume designer behind Beauty and the Beast (because that Cats designer is sooooo mainstream). And while Ron's new look might catch people off guard, it's in perfect line with McDonald's new McCafe campaign attempting to identify the fast-food place with coffee shops. Hell, there's a dude like Ronald in every coffee shop...
