Your sad desk lunch is making you fat

Eating an overpriced sandwich at your desk every day of the week is not only seriously bumming you out, it's also packing on the pounds. According to new research out of Queens College, workers who regularly bring back lunch to their desks are more likely to be obese, have high cholesterol, and generally be unhealthy drones.

The problem is that most people aren't bringing in home-cooked leftovers -- they're grabbing lunch at a shop around the corner. Those foods fall under the study's so-called AFH (away from home) meals, which are categorically not great for you. In fact, the respondents who were big-time AFHers had the highest BMIs and cholesterol, as well as the lowest stocks of vitamins. It didn't make a difference if you went to a salad shop over Burger King, either. The results were similar across the board, even when the person bought a seemingly healthier option. Lead researcher Dr. Ashima Kant hopes the stats will get people to make more stuff for themselves, but to be fair, it'd be a lot easier if Chipotle weren't so damn alluring.
