Here's how you make homemade Dunkaroos

Though you can still scrounge up a few on Amazon, the once-mighty Dunkaroo is now practically extinct. And sadly, we don't see a Surge-like comeback happening anytime soon. But you can still enjoy a gourmet version of that childhood staple with this Food52 recipe for homemade Dunkaroos, blessedly delivered by the lady who brought you gummy bear sangria.

Because Funfetti was always the best icing, you chocolate weirdos, this recipe combines powdered sugar, cream cheese, butter, vanilla, and sprinkles into a pretty amazing mock-Dunkaroo frosting. That gets paired with a batch of custom cinnamon-graham cookies, obviously cut out into animal shapes. The recipe will serve four to six friends -- just make sure they bring good snacks to trade. That means no pretzel sticks, Jamie.
