Sriracha factory threatened with stop order due to crazy fumes, panic ensues

Addendum to our list of 14 things about Sriracha: the fumes are a health hazard. The LA Times reports that residents of Irwindale City have filed complaints against the Huy Fong Corporation claiming that the gas produced from the factory causes headaches, burning eyes, and irritated throats. The company tried cooperating with the community, but later proudly denied that they had an odor problem, citing the "smelt it, dealt it" defense health of their factory workers. Later this week a judge will rule on whether the factory must halt production. Closing the factory doors would send ripples through the global hot sauce economy, perhaps teaching the folks at Huy Fong to be a little less cocky.
