Drive-through ordering: Now with even less human interaction. Huzzah! Thanks to the pioneers at iDriveThru, five Wendy's locations are now allowing you to pay for your nuggets with E-Z Pass technology, meaning you don't even have to reach outside your car until your food is ready.
Under the iDriveThru system, customers can make hands-free payments through a windshield transponder just like the E-Z Pass you use to visit your family two states over. Once you've linked your credit/ debit card information to the device, you can simply roll through the fast food lane and the tag will be read by sensors, which'll give you a personalized greeting on the video above the intercom. After you've placed your order, the payment is taken automatically and you can blow right past that cash-handling nonsense. At participating Wendy's chains, you also get reward points for every dollar you spend, working you towards a $5 coupon.
Only Staten Island is testing this marvel of modern science currently, but an idea this big is sure to spread. And innovation like this means we're one step closer to keeping your 4a fast food orders between you and a drive-through computer.
