Before their epic hajj to Austin, we sat down with Tom Strauch (aka Dogu) from ESL Music's own Ancient Astronauts (who originally hail from Cologne, Germany), to mix it up about Battlestar Galactica, the comparative hotness of Angela Merkel and Hillary Clinton, and the best things about 18th Street Lounge itself (namely, that the girls there are better looking than Angela Merkel and Hillary Clinton).

There are a whole lot of space references in your music, what's that about?
You know, my partner listens to a lot of, what do you say, listening books? Space stuff and Dracula, we are not really big science fiction addicts....And you know, we're ganja smokers.

Which ancient civilization do you think got the message right?
Wow....all of them [laughs]. Actually we're just joking around about these ancient astronaut theories. Our name means to pay respect to the old music and be inspired by it. It's interesting [rolling what appears to be a cigarette]...I don't know if you think back, but how did they build those pyramids? And, in those times? 500 years ago people were s**tting in the corner. I could never say who was right or wrong [Begins to puff on what one can now only assume is a joint].

Stargate or Battlestar Galactica?
Galactica. Stargate is too polished, it's Hollywood science fiction drama.

Speaking of drama, who would win in a fight: Angela Merkel or Hillary Clinton?
I would say Merkel. She's tough, she's not a big smiler. She wouldn't cry. I think Clinton would cry and scream and Merkel would kick the s**t out of her.

My goodness. Which one would you serenade?
Who I would sing too? To none of them.

What about DC United or FC Koln?
I'm not a big football fan, but what I like about Cologne here, [is that] the people really like their team even when they're so bad. It's like we also like the carnival here. It's like Colonge has some special things here.

Hmm...what's better then: Cologne, Germany, or German cologne?
German Cologne is perfume right? Cologne, Germany.

Can you compare your Oktoberfest with the Cherry Blossom festival?
That's for those trees, right? No, I haven't done either.

Alright, so you haven't done the Cherry Blossom festival, but you have done ESL. What's your favorite room there to hang out in?
The outside terrace, in summertime; that's great, especially now with the no smoking law. I also like that back room. But, sometimes it's hard to get the people dancing there, because it looks so cozy, you know? It's like a living room.

Which would you prefer: ESL, or DSL?
Hmm...I know a DJ from Austria with that name. [Thrillist explains our immature reference]. Oh... DSL! Because, maybe you find DSL at ESL? I think a lot of them!
