Bringing bacon waffles to Lakeview

Late nights give you a unique appreciation for the importance of breakfast, from unscrambling your brain with scrambled eggs, to grabbing some melon after failing to do so the night before. Hit a new morning spot from some dudes who can appreciate one: Kanela Breakfast Club.

From a group of nightlife vets with an abiding love for breakfast and brunch, KBC's a contemporary cafe with dangling crystal chandeliers hanging over high-backed chocolate banquettes and dark geometric wallpaper, so at least you won't be the only square in the room. Breakfast creations include stuffed French toast (filled w/ Greek yogurt, berries, & jalapeno chutney), a pork belly Benedict w/ Brussels sprouts and dried cranberries, and a bacon-studded waffle sauced in bourbon caramel/creme Anglaise, sided with chocolate-covered bacon, and sprinkled with bacon dust, so you can actually get high on the hog. They also have lunchier sandwich options, from tuna salad w/ Sriracha aioli and giardiniera, to duck breast slathered with creamy horseradish/onion confit/creme de cassis, to a lamb burger with tzaziki, kalamatas, and whipped feta, which was kind of predictable given how easily it crumbles.

Upon scoring their liquor license this spring, they plan to offer up weekend-only, small plate-focused dinners, and in the meantime folks can get their bev on with Julius Meinl coffee and fresh juices -- hey, at least somebody's getting to squeeze some melons.
