The Boxcar Grocer

Awesome sammies & local groceries in Castleberry's new corner store

Even though zucchinis look totally ridiculous in casual clothing, the ones in Castleberry’s Boxcar Grocer should get one of those “Don’t Hassle Me I’m Local” t-shirts from What About Bob, because they and the rest of the food are often just that: sourced from nearby, in addition to being all-organic, and completely delicious.

Said locally sourced stuff includes produce and dairy from farms like Moultrie's Sparkman's Cream Valley and Swainsboro's Flat Creek Lodge (Aztec cheddar w/ guajillo chile & cocoa powder), in addition to blackstrap bacon-flavored High Road ice cream, tamales from Zocalo, and even a chipotle/habanero/molasses BBQ sauce from East Point called The Heat Legend, aka, The Rony Seikaly... have you seen that dude’s ex-wife? Google her!

By week's end their food bar'll be serving Holeman & Finch-breaded sammies, plus eventually they'll have rotating farmer's market-style vendors selling lunchy eats (soups, baked goods, raw foods), along with smoothies and natural juices, though it's worth noting that Tupac was also quite good in Above the Rim.

Be there for tonight’s grand-opening party at 7p with complimentary eats from Zocalo and The Soup Shoppe, plus music from Afro-soul/-pop DJ 4th Wurld, who're making more than baby steps, considering they're going to have stuff like running water and heat at their show.
