Thrillist AtlantaAlthough it’s often confused with The Paxton, The Pullman is actually a new community-centric gastropub taking its name from Kirkwood's historic rail yards, and opening Friday with an almost jailhouse-y vibe, plus a seating area with a free lending library of books and board games hidden in a chest, which means this Operation's sure to gain some buzz.
The menu's from former Radial Cafe cook "Chef 'Lo", who keeps things lo...cal and all-natural with apps like Turnip Truck-sourced fried garbanzos, plus sammies like pulled Gum Creek pork w/ herb-molasses sauce & roasted pears on a whole wheat hoagie, and meatloaf w/ onions, peppers, and provolone on sliced challah, or the kind of yell youngins do after getting knifed in Fabolous videos.
There're also ancho chili/roasted garlic whole Springer Mountain wings (with fry options like sweet potato w/ cinnamon ketchup, or truffle oil/cracked pepper/parm), an herb-marinated skirt steak w/ blue cheese potatoes & truffled 'shroom jus, and Bramlett Farms trout w/ roasted tomato-infused, stone-ground grits, which're better than regular ground grits, as these haven't been on the floor.
Half of the 12 taps're local (Wild Heaven, Terrapin), and they'll have 10 signature cocktails like the SoCo/Crown/spiced rum/peach schnapps "Casey Jones", the beer/silver tequila/lime "Tease The Brute", and the Jager/Cherry Coke/rye "Join the Birds" -- train slang for jumping from a moving car just before a wreck, which Paxton was for weeks after someone told him how great he was as Lone Star.
Visit The Pullman's Facebook page to see more teaser photos as they get ready to roll on Friday
