Sandwiches finally head East

Proving that no neighborhood is immune to sandwichtrification is Gourmands: a shop started by a family of Eastsiders who've outfitted an old checker-floored Tejano nightclub with sub-slinging capabilities while retaining a community-watering-hole feel via a full bar and bonuses like WiFi, pool tables, and foosball, which foos fighters might have to wait Everlong to play.

In tune with their gluttonous name, each of their flat-top-grilled "FAT" 'wiches clocks in at roughly a 1/2lb, with New World Bakery-bound freshness including the Royal with Brie (roast beef, sprouts, spicy Creole mustard, marble rye), the Second Deadly Sin (smoked turkey bacon, Swiss, fried avo, pesto), and a classic Italian called the Godfather despite its lack of 'fredo sauce.

Things get hot with the hoagie'd Last Supper (roast beef, bacon & queso), and Bacchus (fajita-marinated chicken breast, bacon, poblanos, onion, Swiss, avo, Sambal mayo) and, taking on the Reuben, the Russian-dressed "Orgy", in which everybody strips down to their ushankas.

They're cooking from 11a-11p, but the bar will stay open 'til the traditional kicking-out hour, before which you can imbibe from taps of Lone Star, Live Oak Big Bark, XX, and Independence's Stash IPA, so at least one Eastside 'stash will be un-ironic.
