Slurping Turtle

Takashi takes on Japanese comfort food

Making noise when you eat is fun, especially when Billy Crystal gets totally awkward looking at your O face! Filling your ears with deliciously different slurping sounds, Slurping Turtle.

The celebrated chef of Bucktown's Takashi is recreating childhood memories of noisy noodle bowls and other Japanese comfort food in ST's open kitchen, which overlooks a 30-seat communal wooden table hovered over by a mezzanine, though hopefully you won't eat so much you have a Massive Attack. Noodle options include classic, Tokyo-style ramen w/ braised pork shoulder and bamboo shoots, mung bean noodles studded w/ short ribs, and whole wheat egg noodles w/ spicy miso, ground pork, and housemade spicy sausage called Tan Tan Men, who are clearly compensating for getting fat fat on noodles. You can supplement your slurping with sweet onion-sauced bigeye tuna sashimi, lobster corn dogs, duck fat-fried chicken, and either Madagascar prawns or quails grilled over Japanese charcoal known as Binchō-tan, which is clearly compensating for being Bincho Japan's famed white charcoal.

Wash everything down with one (or more) of 16 sakes, or hit a selection of Midwestern Craft and Japanese brews that includes the Baird Angry Boy, the Bard Angry Boy being what Billy Crystal is after finding out you're totally faking your orgasms with him!
