The dude behind SD's noted, Irish-named, American beer pub, O'Brien's, has decided to travel a more straight-forward route with the less-confusingly USA-focused West Coast BBQ & Brew: an easily overlooked, La Mesa hole-in-the-wall where the carefully curated beer list will be bolstered by grilled meats from a custom wood-pit BBQ stoked by a pit master with 50yrs of experience, which is totally mind-blowing considering World of Warcraft only came out in 2004.
Since Ben Franklin says beer is proof that God wanted him to invent electricity, they've got 28 taps primed with a rotating lineup that currently rocks four 10% monstrosities including Ballast Point Victory at Sea Imperial Porter, Karl Strauss CBC Symposium IPA, Malheur 10 Belgian pale ale, and Hangar 24 IPA brewed with orange blossom honey. Graced with more meat than a 98 Degrees video, the menu rocks sharers like breaded chicken wings with sauce that'll “bite you back”, sandos like the sliced BBQ beef with cheddar or jalapeno pepper sauce, Southern-style pulled pork, and dry-rubbed, slow-smoked ribs three ways -- so expect pork spare, baby back, and “meaty beef” to have a hard time making ribeye-contact the next morning.
If you need specials to feel special, cruise in for the daily Rib & Ale, which means, for under 10 bucks, you can take down a beef or pork rib, or three baby backs, plus a 10oz brew, as it's much easier to handle your own wars after a couple of crafts.
