Craving a New York-style bagel straight outta Brooklyn? Then go to Brooklyn, fixie-rider. Craving a West Coast-style bagel straight outta a place with Brooklyn in its name? Then go to Old Brooklyn Bagels & Deli, a new Rockridge holery slinging carb-y goodness and super awesome history lessons.

Did someone say super awesome history lessons?!? Up until 1856, East Oakland was actually known as Old Brooklyn, where OBBD gets its name, plus design aesthetic: it's brick-facaded and history-drenched with an awesome 1850s map of Oakland pasted on the counter, plus tons of framed Oak-town black-and-whites. Bagel-wise, they'll be serving up gourmet boiled breakfast handhelds (asiago pesto! jalapeƱo! tropical...?) which you can spread with everything from your regular cream cheeses to peanut butter with fresh bananas and Nutella (so, pretty much that one, all the time, forever). They're also slanging hot and cold West/East Coast-named sammies like the Greenwich (house-cured-bacon-wrapped meatloaf, radish slaw, cucumbers, cilantro) or the Cuban pork/applewood-smoked ham/sour pickles/Dijon mustard Bushwick, or George Sr's brief, misguided post-retirement candle-making venture.

And because you'll have eaten your fill but still want more, their amazing deli meats can be purchased by the lb and fresh pastas are available for on-the-go, which's great considering you're a fixie-rider.
