Danny Meyer's Roman paean inside the Gramercy Park Hotel, Mai's a cream-walled, wood beamed spot split into a casual front bar and a slightly more formal rear "trattoria" by pastry/bread/coffee stations and a white marble salumi bar; the menu strives for authenticity, including antipastis like tripe with tomato/pecorino/mint, pastas of carbonara, amatriciana, and cod w/ basil and tomato, and mains like oxtail, rosemary lamb neck, and roast suckling pig for two -- or for one, if you truly are what you eat.
