Thrillist Los AngelesIt's rare for anticipation to pay off, unless you're Carly Simon, and totally pwning Cat Stevens. For a club that actually lives up to its anticipation, check out Drai's.
Finally opening tonight after months of hype, billboards, and private parties, Drai's is a three-pronged rooftop clubstaurant on the 12th floor of the new W Hollywood, from a guy who got his start on La Cienega, then became an impresario in Vegas, and is now returning home, presumably to a fridge filled with very expired mustards. The club itself's got a deafening sound system, of course, and a wide-windowed interior lavishly appointed with flowing curtains, mirrored columns, gold-shaded lamps, and bottle-service'd booths featuring silvery couches embossed with snakeskin, which sound like they would work great on a plane, until Internet over-hype dooms them. If you're hungry, the attached restaurant boasts indoor/outdoor seating and a fire pit, as well as seared amadai snapper w/ roasted red peppers, cippolini onions, garlic mash, and tomato marmalade; roasted rack of lamb w/ green beans, pommes souffle, and lamb jus; from-the-grill options comprise an 18oz prime bone-in rib-eye, a 10oz filet mignon, or a 20oz Chateaubriand for two, or one totally relapsed Al Roker.
Not to be outdone, the pool's surrounded by bottom-lit palm trees with private cabanas beside and a mezzanine above, plus a bar slinging girltastic drinks like a cucumber martini w/ Hendrick's, Midori, and fresh watermelon, and the Pineapple Crush, w/ fresh peaches and coconut cream, each available by the glass or in a carafe, in case you're so vain that you refuse to admit they're all for you.
