Get your veg on in WeHo

Usually, if it looks like a duck, and walks like a duck, it's a duck, which you'll then devour. Unless you're at the Veggie Grill, opening today.

Setting up shop in West Hollywood, VG is an ultra-casual cafe with wood-slatted walls and bench seating slinging shockingly delicious all-vegetarian food (that tastes uncannily meaty despite being made from bodybuilder-recalling "textured wheat protein"), and is finally bringing LA the love after achieving cult-like status in Irvine and El Segundo -- worth eating at, as your wallet is already there. Sandwich staples are served on moist whole wheat buns, and options include carne asada "beef" marinated in Fat Tire and topped with Mexican spices and southwestern spiced vegan mayo; a flash-fried "chickin" with a Santa-Fe style chipotle sauce; and "The Stack", with fake cow piled high amid onion rings, thousand island dressing, and the knowledge that if you can get fatter here, you can get fatter anywhere! As far as sides, VG offers a thick, bean-laced chili, seasoned sweet potato fries w/ a chipotle ranch dipping sauce, and "Chill Out Wings", which is also what Tony Shalhoub said when the network asked him to do a reunion show.

Of course, Veggie Grill also has a bunch of salads (kale and cabbage w/ roasted corn salsa, agave-roasted walnuts & ginger-papaya vinaigrette, etc), as well as dairy-free desserts like chocolate chip cookies, and carrot cake -- which you'll promptly devour, as "if it looks like a cake...".
