Rhode Island pop-arts off

Going to a top art school doesn't mean your work has to be all highbrow, unless you're Peter Gallagher going to acting school, and even then, it's more like thick, luxurious brow. For simple, fun pop art sprung from one of New England's finest art institutes, check out Rich Pellegrino Illustrations.

From the brush of a RISD-trained artist still crushing it in Warwick, RPI's a wildly colorful portfolio of portraits that impose a caricature-esque aesthetic on iconic movie characters & musicians, though not ironic ones, because who wants to line their house with Juno?

Film
His movie star collection's Wes Anderson-heavy (a Tenenbaum'ing Bill Murray, the Darjeeling bros), but also rocks '80s faves like a sunglass-donning Marty McFly, and actioneers like a sword-wielding Uma in her most famous role, which is weird, because she didn't even carry one in Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief!

Music
Old-school rockers (Jerry Garcia, Jimi Hendrix, Tom Waits) are featured next to blues legends like B.B. King and Buddy Guy, who presumably got his stage moniker by being greeted at Southie bars where no one knew his name.

Potpourri/Random Nakedness
He's also got mildly-NSFW nudes, plus landscapes, and random cafe sketches, which Peter Gallagher warns Seth Cohen not to flirt with at Au Bon Pain.

ExhortBut wait, there's more -- dude even paints comedians like Steven Wright & Ricky Gervais -- you know, to hang up at The Office! Appreciate the entire collection right now at RichPellegrino.com.
