Like the serial killers in 80% of horror movies, the Plymouth-based systems architect behind Nootropic spends his nights "hacking" in a "subterranean laboratory". The only difference? He's doing something far more sinister: building nefariously desirable tech-toys you won't be able to resist spending your hard-earned dollars on! Behold:

The Defusable Clock: This fully functional alarm clock has a big red button that starts a 10-second countdown that can only be bypassed by pulling out or cutting one of the four wires (randomly assigned each time the detonate button is pressed). Choose wrong and the device will "detonate", resulting in the most effective -- but least pleasant -- way to wake up with a bang.

Hackvision: Thankfully not a product that lets you see what Metta World Peace sees, this open-source device is basically a build-your-own video game unit. It hooks up to any TV, comes preloaded with Space Invaders/Pong or Asteroids, and allows you write your own arcade games without any knowledge of actual programming, so... watch out world, Dot That Moves Around The Screen Unpredictably is coming for you!

And so you can tinker in a basement too, these and other fully assembled toys are also available as DIY kits, just in case you -- unlike those poor, cut-up horror movie victims -- are hands on.
