Close your eyes and imagine a world where some ingenious service has compiled every relevant Craigslist rental listing onto an easy-to-view Gmap. Now open your eyes, look around, and remember how crappy your current apartment is. Now check out Lovely.
Filed under "W" for "Why hadn't anyone thought of this before?", just-launched-in-DC Lovely is quite possibly the cleanest and most intuitive apartment-finder ever: a map interface conceived in SF that's already made everything about renting in that city a cinch... except for, you know, paying rent. The map's updated in real time, with a current total of about 1500 properties represented by pins, which can be filtered by the standard criteria (price, neighborhood, # bedrooms, etc); Lovely even marks brand-new properties as "fresh yesterday" with orange pins so you don't spend time looking over the same stuff you decided was stale yesterday. Click a pin to reveal the apartment's interior photos, vitals (layout, amenities, etc), and contact info, then use the built-in email feature to reach out to the lister directly from the site instead your personal email, ensuring your vitals don't end up in a cooler somewhere while the rest of you wakes up in a bath tub.
Create an account if you'd like, and they'll even send you alerts when new apartments pop up that fit your specific criteria, aka "nothing like this current one, which makes me want to gouge my eyes out".
