Thinking back to the 1920s and '30s, two things come to mind: the glory of art deco, and the Great Depression. Now that your pocketbook's taken that wondrous journey back in time, hit a bar that's done the same: Bar Delux, opening Friday.

From the Goa guys, Delux is a fully deco'd loungestaurant, with geometric couches, birthday cake chandeliers, a gas fireplace, a bar backed by stained glass depicting a 1930s city scene and, upstairs, a small, quaintly luxe sitting room with a billowing red ceiling you could comfortably sleep on, if the world flipped over and everyone else tumbled into space. Small plates come courtesy of The Foundry chef, and are separated into four sections: "snacks" like mac & cheese w/whiskey bbq sauce, "plates" (seared scallops w/citrus marmalade & champagne buerre blanc), "deluxe" (lobster and tequila mole w/Mexican truffle & mango salad and corn pancakes), and "salads" (but seriously -- times aren't that desperate). Cocktail standouts include the Johnnie Walker Black/lime juice/liquified ginger "Ginger Black", the Martin Miller's Gin/maraschino liqueur/mint sprig "Garnet", and the "Spicy Dom": Don Julio Blanco, agave nectar, lime juice, and pickled jalapenos "to taste", or "to hollow braggadocio".

Though the door's velvet roped, it can be bypassed with a dinner reservation -- leading to your personal Great Depression, when you forget to call, and're forced to root through their dumpsters for condiment packages.
