Cafeina

A lounge hidden between Wynwood warehouses

Bleak places can really blossom with a little vision and prodding, and eventually turn into a dynamo like Las Vegas, or the other former wasteland investors are even more amped to pump money into -- Dubai! (Baby needs a indoor ski hill!). For a fly new lounge breaking ground in a gritty warehouse hood, seek out Cafeina.

Deep in the raw industrial blocks of western Wynwood, inexplicably coffee-themed Cafeina was once part of the owner's flooring factory, but has been transformed into a lounge/eatery/art gallery with 17-foot stone walls, a grove of high-end leather seating with fluffy throw pillows, a bar filled with coffee beans, a mezzanine area looking down on it all, and a garden out back whose only beans are the ones on the statue of some dude. The cocktail menu includes the requisite caffeine, like in the Cafe Con Leche Martini (coffee-infused vodka, Amarula Liqueur, Crème de Cacao, coffee bean garnish), while also branching out with the Hot Passion (light rum, Cointreau, passion fruit purée, fresh lime, jalapeño), the Tamarind Cocktail (Moleca Cachaca, tamarind syrup, fresh lemon, touch of honey), and the Plymouth Basil, with Plymouth Gin, grapefruit juice, basil syrup, and a sugared rim, which helps, especially if it's your first "job". As for grub, global fusion small plates include miniature Kobe burgers w/ sweet pickle & roasted pepper mayo; sushi-grade tuna tacos with carrots, cucumber, pomegranate mayo, & avocado hash; and a traditional Cuban sandwich with roasted lamb and Manchego cheese called Mini Madness -- also a group of Mini Kiss rejects united by their love of "Our House".

Music's gonna range from jazz/lounge to occasional rump shakin', and this Saturday they're launching their monthly Second Saturday Art Walk After Party called "Welcome To The Jungle", with body painting at 9, live music from Afrobeta at 10-ish, DJ Heather Holiday, and their version of Jungle Juice (Absolut Citron, Midori, kiwi juice, fresh lime, rosemary), a major step up from the college concoction that turned you from a dynamo into a wasteland.
