Lounge 69

When there's a cavernous void in your life you simply have to take action, which is exactly why you got up that one day, went right out, and bought John Tesh at that tag sale. For a drinking spot also filling a gaping void, hit up Lounge 69.

From a couple hotel owners who pined for a bar in their hood (MiMo) where they could chill and get as buzzed as they damn well pleased, 69 commandeered the former indoor/outdoor lunch area of Uva, decked it with oriental rugs, palms, Moroccan lamps and lounge chairs from various eras, and morphed the gallery space into a red-walled hookah room perfect for relaxing and making incredibly clever jokes about the place's name. Beers stick to staples (Stella, Heineken, Corona, and Hoegaarden), while cone-glassed options lean towards herbs and fresh fruit, varying depending on what's in season, with entries like the Uva, with muddled strawberry, mint, fresh grapefruit, and gin, and as-yet-unnamed concoctions like muddled watermelon and lemongrass with white rum, and a coconut mojito with dark rum, brown sugar, and sage -- apparently parsley and rosemary just didn't have the thyme. There's an extended (4 to 8) 2-for-1 happy hour Mon to Fri, plus special theme nights like "In The Biz" service industry Wednesdays, half-off all martinis all day/night on Fridays, and on Saturdays, parties of four or more get a free hookah (normally $20) with flavored tobacco options like mint, mint chocolate chip, mixed berry, and ocean mist; if you're game, the owner'll even fill the water chamber with boozes to cool and flavor the smoke, like Merlot or mojitos -- because you know drinking the bongwater's gross, but just maybe...

They also piggyback off Uva's kitchen to fill your belly (until 11pm on weekdays, 1am on weekends), with Latin fusion options like Gulf shrimp tempura w/ chayote slaw and sweet chili dipping sauce, sake-marinated grouper filet w/ coconut-scented jasmine rice, and warm crumb apple tartlette w/ caramel-rum sauce and gelato so vanilla, it'll Tesh perfectly with your new in-home sound track.
