Ms. Metal

The truest way to show your love of something is to use it to make something else -- your ratty favorite shirt can be reborn in a patchwork quilt, and your uncle becomes a mantelpiece decoration. Channeling auto-lust into badass accessories, Ms. Metal.

Started by a Joliet woman whose veneration for classic rides culminated in singlehandedly rebuilding a '53 Chevy, MM handcrafts gear either inspired by or made from real-deal car and motorcycle parts. The sweetest pieces are the belt-buckles, both a sterling silver/copper-abetted vintage V8 emblem and a SuperDeluxe ornament pulled off a 1946-48 Ford (sometimes it pays to subcontract work to youth gangs). Above the waist, cubic zircon rings and necklaces are cut to look like lugnuts, while hardware-festooned chrome-plated bracelets come in four styles: Wing Nut, Nut, the slotted Screw, and the Deluxe Screw U -- for when it's unclear whether decorum might not require a Phillips head.

Appropriately, MM also makes gear for your car, including copper-constructed, chrome-plated shifter knobs and stainless steel spiderweb headlight covers -- turning your love of bugs into something they squish themselves against.
