Due to its low profile, finding indie music gold means joining the indie music scene -- by the time your auditory jones is satisfied, you're rocking moose-knucklingly tight pants and seriously considering eye shadow. Or, you could use StumbleAudio.

Streaming over 2 million tracks of obscure ear candy, Stumble lets you peruse thousands of unknown musicians, either by genre, or by plugging in better-known faves to find similar underground artists -- placing you at the bleeding edge of fandom, even if you're staring down at the next Gin Blossoms. To accomplish this magic, it initially pulls "people who bought this..."-data from existing download services and CD stores (which evidently still exist), then goes on to learn your prefs with a simple thumbs up/down function; songs arrive with access to the rest of their respective album, and once you settle on a tune, you can endlessly rewind, so by the time it finally blows up you'll be suitably totally over it. The search possibilities are mind-numbing: aspiring rappers who emulate Dr. Dre but can't afford his studio time (165 albums returned); arena rock albums that just missed Bon Jovi status (369); legions inspired by Frank Zappa (1383); and at least 26 albums linked to Buckcherry, suggesting that other bands also exclusively sing about kicking total ass.

Stumble's currently developing external music player and mobile device compatibility, so soon you can discover great stuff in your car, or at the club -- where you'll have plenty of downtime after failing to fulfill women's search criteria for "men who dress like Fall Out Boy".
