The reach of social networking brings many benefits, like using Facebook to check in on old friends, but it does make you miss the good old days of perching in a tree and just stalking until Michael J. Fox interrupts, and gets hit by her dad's car. Now, use it to get yourself classily drunk, with Whisky Connosr.
As if descended from the Internet heavens, London-based Connosr's a review site/social network hybrid that lets you browse and review whiskeys from around the world (and buy them online), connect with other whiskey-devotees, and curate a virtual cabinet/wishlist with the bottles you've bought in real life, or ones you wish you could afford but can't, because rehab was waaay more expensive than one might think. To get started, register and build a quick profile (location, favorite whiskey, etc) and begin browsing reviews by variety (Irish, American whiskeys/bourbons, Scotch single malts), name, or popular flavor tags (i.e., peat, caramel, honey, smoke); you can add any spirits you think you'd enjoy to your "Wishlist", or compose reviews of ones you've tasted, paired with a 1-10 star rating to build out a "Cabinet", as long as Congress doesn't ask Laphroaig about the time it employed an illegal nanny. To fully leverage the network, you can browse upcoming user-submitted whiskey-related events/tastings worldwide, add "Buddies" with similar favorites, or use their embedded Gmap to find other whiskey lovers in your area who may also be sitting in front of their computer drinking alone.
Soon to come is an iPhone app that'll let you review new whiskeys anywhere, allowing you to build your profile while re-creating the good old days of perching at a barstool until Michael J. Fox comes in, and boldly asks for a Tab.
