Yummly

A search engine to solve mealtime indecision

Figuring out what to make for dinner can be complicated when you're craving a specific flavor combination, especially considering how hard it is to keep Whoppers on a piece of pizza. Helping you sate all your desires in one simple dish, Yummly.

A new offering from two eBay vets, Yum's a super-advanced search engine that connects you to the perfect meal via a slick interface rocking controls for everything from flavor profiles to nutrition specs, perfect for those rocking no control for themselves. The headlining aspect of their proprietary "FoodFinder" is the sliding scales representing the amount of the five major tastes (sorry umami) you want in your dish, used to filter a 500,000-strong recipe list aggregated from Epicurious, Food Network, Chow, and beyond; each dish's profile is determined by the flavors of its component ingredients, though given the whole sometimes isn't the sum of its parts, you may end up supplying the "bitter" yourself. Simultaneous narrowing can be accomplished by designating dietary restrictions (vegan, wheat-free,...sulfite-free), preferred cuisine type (from Croatian to Maltese), max prep time, and by restricting/mandating certain ingredients, because sometimes you feel like a nut, and sometimes one will totally kill you.

To round it out, users can modify any recipe by substituting suggested ingredients, and endlessly scale each one to fit a specific number of servings, letting you prepare so much food that the Whopper will be you.
