Broadway East

It's daylight savings tomorrow -- but the hour you lose at the bar will be regained in the afterlife

The support of others is critical when undertaking a potentially traumatic experience -- as when that tandem partner helped your first skydive go by the book, and Houghton Mifflin helped losing your virginity...go by the book. Supporting you in your time of vegetables, Broadway East, open tonight.

Thrillist - Broadway EastFrom a former chef of Napa's Domaine Chandon, BE's a veg-centric LES spot that makes itself approachably familiar to the everyman -- starting by eschewing the typical Krishna decor in favor of LES-chic trappings like exposed wood beams and a bar made from a reclaimed NYC water tower (so that's what those are good for). 90% of the menu's vegetarian you'll actually want to try (portobello w/ porcini mushroom ragout; crispy coconut tempeh w/ whipped sweet potato…); but to calm your meat-shakes, they've also included flesh like an Atlantic mackerel club, and roasted chicken "a la Straus Square" -- either named after the 19th century Jewish émigré, or boxy pants. BE's also got you covered with two bars serving sake cocktails, NY-centric vino, and Brooklyn microbrews like Crops Circle Amber and Hooker Blonde Ale -- which, once paid for, will ingloriously reveal itself as a Bald Stout.

Soon, BE'll start serving breakfast (panini w/ smoked tempeh bacon, mixed grain porridge, etc), thereby supporting you during an experience that, however routine, still retains much of its horror: being up before noon.
