Craft Beer Bar Crawls

Face it: you're too old to hop from bar to bar for glass-after-glass of watery pee beer -- but are you too old to hop from bar to bar for glass-after-glass of delicious not-pee beer? No, you're not, so hit NY Craft Beer Week's Bar Crawls.

NYCBW's a citywide series of drinking jaunts celebrating the suds de la suds of NY and the surrounding region, envisioned by a longtime admirer of Philly Beer Week tired of 4hr crawls on SEPTA. Excursions are organized by nine Manhattan and Bklyn hoods, each including four to six craft-y bars, e.g., George Keeley's and The Dead Poet on the Upper West, Pacific Standard and The Gate in Park Slope, and, on the LES, Spitzer's Corner, Stanton Public, and Puck Fair (the latter's actually in NoLita, but what's geography when your ultimate destination's a beer tap?). What you quaff depends on where you roam: in Williamsburg, you'll find the likes of Chelsea's Hop Angel IPA, Southhampton's Secret Ale, and Smuttynose's Finestkind IPA, while in the East Village you'll get Chelsea's Checker Cab Blonde, Victory's Prima Pils, and Southhampton's Double White Ale -- available at Against the Grain, home of the Albino Wino.

NYCBW's also organizing beer-and-food-pairing dinners at several restos (Jimmy's No. 43, Lansdowne Road, etc) -- an alternative for the man who thinks he's too old to crawl for beer of any quality, and would prefer a wobbly sit.
