S'MAC

345 E 12th St, between 1st and 2nd; 212.358.7912

In the world of NYC comfort food, Mac & Cheese reigns supreme -- not ordering it can result in crippling self-doubt, withdrawal symptoms, and a hasty return to the same restaurant. Now, someone's finally giving M&C its own spot: S'MAC, opening this weekend in the East Village.

This diner/delivery joint plans on "pushing the boundaries of what can be done with Macaroni & Cheese" -- a mission we'd thought Kraft's "Super Mario Brothers" shells had accomplished, 'til we saw S'MAC's ridiculous menu. Among their ten different skillets:

Brie: brie, roasted figs & shiitake mushrooms, rosemary

(For those who think they're too good for mac & cheese)

Cajun: cheddar & pepper jack cheese, andouille sausage, green pepper, onions, celery, garlic, Cajun seasoning

(For those who like Dom DeLuise's steez)

Cheeseburger: ground beef, onions, garlic, ketchup, mustard, American and cheddar cheese

(For those who no longer care about living)

If you create your own combo, you can double the meat, or infuse it with hot dog. Best of all, portions are generous, especially the Mongo: big enough for three, or, if you're truly addicted, enough S'MAC to make sure you never leave your apartment. Which is what truly comfortable food is all about.
