Gear: By Robert James

By Robert James

Former Target designer James has opened a white-walled retail sleeve -- rustic'd up w/ gilded mirrors, vintage sconces, etc -- to hawk hand-printed graphic tees fusing pop culture and not-pop history, like a Viking helmet scrawled w/ "Life Liberty and the Pursuit of Booty", or an African tribesman captioned "Extinct Hipster". Heavier garb runs from plaid button-downs w/ four-button cuff plackets to asymmetrically zipping military-style jackets, all inspired by "the 1960s and 19th Century" -- for that rarely accomplished Fort Sumter of Love look.

Holiday: Jew Cards

Jew Cards

Everybody loves Christmas, but how to send season's greetings if your people killed Jesus? Rejoice with these cards sporting art from hilariously earnest vintage Jewish LPs, including "The Moishe Oysher Chanukah Party", Sol Zim's "The Joy of Chanukah", and Ray Brenner and Barry E. Blitzer's ontologically impossible but undeniably festive "Have a Jewish Christmas".

United Bamboo

Up to 85% off Fall '08 gear (argyle sweater vests, wool slacks, glossy nylon jackets,...) from United Bamboo, a NY brand inspired by the designer's Japanese heritage, not Taiwan's United Bamboo triad, who everyone knows are all about houndstooth sweater vests.
