The List

It's easier to buy things than talk about feelings, so get dad something from Thrillist's Dad's Day HQ.

Drink: Destination Bar & Grille

211 Avenue A, at 13th; 212.388.9844

From the Bowery Wine guy, this breezy corner bar offers a sunlit front with open sidewalk-facing windows, double-height tables, and a pressed-tin covered bar; and a dimly lit back, sporting a modern rock juke and a medley of unassuming but comfy sofas. Plans are to serve comfort food in the next few weeks (sliders, mini grilled cheese, pizza bites, etc), but for now they're guzzle-only, with ten taps (Radeberger, UFO Hefeweizen, an eponymous Destination lager...), $3 jello shots (the Jello-Rita w/ Gummi Worm; the Fuzzy Navel w/ Sour Patch Kid), and cocktails like "Truck Stop Lemonade" and "Slappledapolous Islands Rum Punch" -- whose tongue-twisting safety feature makes it impossible to order a second round.

Wang: Things That Look Like CocknBalls

The prodigiously acronymed TTLLCAB is a user-generated catalogue of otherwise innocuous, everyday items that happily resemble twig and berries: from the transpo-centric (gas station oil stains, a bicycle seat), to the sanitary ("Left by Purell...after being lit on fire on a desk and wiped to the floor"), to the foodie (very disturbing pancakes). Awesomely, the whole thing was put together to promote the Bee-Gees heavy metal tribute band Tragedy -- i.e., the sentiment you feel every time you're surprised with cocknballs.

Gear: Cassius Sunglasses

Straight out of New Zealand, these minimalist shades come in four varieties all named after architects (the slate, angle-framed Le Corbusier, the rounded and white Gehry...), and sport gradient tint UV400 lenses coated in CR-39 -- a strong plastic originally used to guard B-17 bomber fuel tanks from flak, now used to hide your tears as you endure it.
