Winter technical apparel can provide protection from both frigid mountainside elements and blistering insults from Andover seniors, but on the fashionable streets of NYC it'll get you totally elephant walked, in some sort of super-sophisticated, urbane way. Pressing performance apparel into urban duty, Acronym.

Acronym's a Munich-based outfit whose frigid-weather garb plugs next-level proprietary technology into city-ready silhouettes; unlike similarly minded outfits, it also eschews bright neon colors in favor of blacks and grays, helpfully keeping its customers from being confused parking cones. Hardshells, all made with a Gore-Tex membrane bonded to both a durable outer layer and comfy inner lining, include the loose-fitting J14 (w/ square chest & shoulder pockets, removable storm hood, military-spec zippers), and the J15, a straight-fit hooded "sweatshirt" with a fuzzy, waffle-patterned interior; meanwhile, the lightshell J5's based on the US Army Combat Uniform (seven ext. pockets, built-in shoulder sling) and's made from high-density cotton originally developed for immersion suits for WWII "hurricane pilots", who'd have spent less time in the water if they weren't constantly at Pat O'Briens. Softshells, made from a specially treated, dirt/water repellent fabric from Swiss firm Schoeller, include the minimalist J12TS (two pockets, modular webbing system) and the J16 (pleated chest pocket, cuff thumb-loops, built-in shoulder articulation), while the J2 varsity jacket -- repping the "school of universally quantified anarchists" -- sports water-resistant white leather sleeves, black melton wool body, and cashmere cuffs (lawlessness shouldn't require itchy wrists).

The line's filled out by a handful of next-to-skin shirts and skullies, plus bags made from a blend of cotton and Cordura, including the 3A-1 zip-top messenger, and a vertical, dual-strapped piece designed by Bagjack, another form of hazing sometimes meted out by urbane men in round glasses, smoking cigarettes they rolled themselves outside the Angelika.
